Smart Bits: Dutch Banks Order 2.5M Smart Cards from Bull

Bull CP8, the Bull Group's chip card division, said it has received an order for 12.5 million smart cards to be used in the Chipknip program in the Netherlands.

Dutch banks placed the order after completing a trial in the city of Arnhem. Government officials expect public transportation applications to grow quickly as the Chipknip program spreads.

Bull, the world leader in microprocessor cards for banking applications, said it will first be delivering five million CC60 chip cards, with technology sufficient for several limited functions. The remaining 7.5 million cards will contain the more advanced, multi-functional CC1000 technology.
