Smart Bits: NCR to Market Intellect's Terminals

Intellect Electronics Inc., the Australian-owned terminal manufacturer, said it recently signed a marketing agreement with NCR Corp.

The deal, expanding the companies' relationship elsewhere in the world, will enable the former AT&T subsidiary to sell and support a range of Intellect payment products in the United States, including terminals that accept smart cards. The NCR brand will appear on the Intellect terminals.

Intellect's president, Thomas Ream, said the agreement should "give Intellect greater access to U.S. markets, providing the extra profile required to become a major player here."

The Australian company had provided NCR with smart card terminals for a major technology overhaul at Chase Manhattan Corp.
