In Brief: Silicon Valley Bancshares Plans an Atlanta Office

Silicon Valley Bancshares will open a regional office in Atlanta June 1 to serve technology firms in the Southeast.

The new office will focus on emerging growth technology companies backed by venture capital, and will be an extension of the bank's Silicon Valley East unit, based in Boston.

The office will be run by Tom Vertin, who had managed the bank's communications practice in northern California.

With the opening of the Atlanta office, $1.9 billion-asset Silicon Valley will have 14 offices serving 2,000 customers in 40 states.

The bank has also opened offices in Bellevue, Wash.; Austin, Tex.; and Boulder, Colo., in the past year.
