Tech Bytes: Key Building Corporate Applications with Java

KeyCorp said it is using the Java computer language from Sun Microsystems Inc. to build applications for its corporate clients.

Following a pilot called KeyLink, KeyCorp chose Menlo Park, Calif.-based NetDynamics to design Web-based software that works across a wide variety of desktop computers.

The software can be updated via the Internet, eliminating the need for distributing new versions of software to corporate clients when upgrades become necessary.

"The advantage of building a Web-based application is that we can make changes immediately available," said Michael Onders, vice president of advanced development for the banking company's KeyServices unit.

The application is used by 1,500 corporate trust customers. It allows them to review portfolio data over the Internet.
