Card Briefs: Diebold Names VP Of Data Systems

Diebold Inc., a maker of automated teller machines and smart card systems, promoted Charles J. Bechtel to corporate vice president of information systems.

He succeeds Frank G. D'Angelo, who resigned in April.

Mr. Bechtel, 51, joined Diebold in 1988 and was most recently vice president in the North American sales and service division. He will be responsible for operations and development of information systems, technical and user support, telecommunications, and capital investments.

He reports to Gerald F. Morris, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Jerry McElhatton, president of global technology and operations, said the benefits would spread beyond MasterCom as "other areas adopt these quality vehicles."
