Card Briefs: Star System's POS Volume Jumps 81%

Star System Inc. said it set a record for point of sale transactions in the first quarter, at 80.5 million. Volume was up 81% from the comparable period last year.

Automated teller machine transactions totaled 77.3 million, a 1% increase.

The network attributed the increase in point of sale transactions to the wider acceptance of debit cards by retailers. More than 50,000 retailers, including supermarkets, discount stores, and gas stations, accept the cards at 130,000 locations.
