Tech Bytes: Valid-Certificate Firm Gets $6.1M, Names a VP

Valicert Inc., a two-year-old company selling a technology for validating digital certificates, said it raised $6.1 million in financing from a group consisting of Intel Corp., several venture capital firms, and private investors.

The company also bolstered its management team with the appointment of Sathvik Krishnamurthy as vice president of marketing.

"We see digital certificate validation as an important high-growth market segment as individuals, corporations, and government rely increasingly upon secure communications and commerce over the Internet," said John Johnston, general partner of August Capital, one of the investors. "Valicert's management team has the experience to deliver technology, products, and services to address this critical aspect of electronic commerce and communications."

"Intel is committed to leading the industry in the development of open and interoperable security solutions," said Michael Glancy, general manager of the chip-maker's platform security division. "Valicert's scalable and efficient validation technology fills a critical need in the security framework.
