Mercantile Bank Corp Names Executive

Mercantile Bank Corp., Grand Rapids, Mich., the holding company for the start-up Mercantile Bank of West Michigan, has hired Charles E. Christmas as treasurer.

Mr. Christmas was a senior bank examiner at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

He will also be vice president of finance and compliance officer at the $100 million-asset company and the bank.

The company also elected C. John Gill, Calvin D. Murdock, and Donald Williams Sr. to its board.

Mr. Gill is the retired chairman and an owner of Gill Industries.

Mr. Murdock is president of SF Supply, both in Grand Rapids.

Mr. Williams is dean of minority affairs and director of the multicultural center at Grand Valley State University.

Mercantile of West Michican opened its doors Dec. 15, having completed a public offering in late October.

The bank is not related to St. Louis based Mercantile Bancorp. or Mercantile Bankshares in Baltimore.
