In Brief: Suit Accuses Freddie Of Employment Bias

An African-American former employee of Freddie Mac has filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against the secondary mortgage agency.

Tony Morgan seeks $15 million in damages in his suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The action alleges that Freddie Mac illegally discriminates against African-American applicants in hiring and promotions, and that it maintains a racially hostile work environment. Mr. Morgan worked there for 15 months, from January 1995 to March 1996.

The suit seeks class action status on behalf of about 40 African- Americans who have been Freddie Mac employees.

In a press conference Wednesday, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said he would seek a meeting with President Clinton to discuss employment and lending discrimination at Freddie Mac.

Freddie Mac termed the suit "groundless."
