In Brief: Barclays Names Head Of High-Grade Debt

Barclays Capital, the U.S. investment banking subsidiary of London- based Barclays Bank PLC, appointed Jaswinder Sandher to be chief of high- grade debt capital markets.

Mr. Sandher works in New York and reports to Joseph C. Bencivenga, Barclays' global head of high-yield and emerging market bonds. He is responsible for high-grade U.S. and Canadian issuers for investment-grade bonds and medium-term notes, particularly for those companies that plan to issue European paper.

Mr. Sandher has headed Barclays private placements for European medium- term notes and commercial paper in London for two years. He joined Barclays from Luxembourg-based European Investment Bank, where he was responsible for borrowing in several foreign currencies.

In his new role, which started last month, Mr. Sandher promotes European debt instruments to American investors, Barclays said.

"His extensive European-based experience in currency bonds will prove extremely valuable to U.S. issuers looking to take advantage of the new euro market," said Thomas L. Kalaris, chief executive officer of Barclays Capital.
