Tech Bytes: Deutsche Telekom to Use GTE's Cybertrust

Deutsche Telekom, the largest telecommunications company in Europe, selected GTE Corp.'s Cybertrust technology for its digital certification business in Germany.

GTE said Deutsche Telekom would offer a customer-branded certificate service to financial institutions, on-line merchants, and corporate customers.

GTE Internetworking, the unit that includes the GTE Cybertrust Solutions business, said testing began in March and the service will be operational in September.

Cybertrust Solutions president Peter Hussey said the German telecommunication company "has done a tremendous job of creating the infrastructure to support electronic commerce on a large scale."
