In Brief: W. Texas Bank in DealTo Go Near Fort Worth

Independent Bankshares, Abilene, Tex., plans to enter the Dallas-Fort Worth market by acquiring Azle Bancorp for $19 million in cash.

Independent, a $269 million-asset bank holding company, plans to raise money to buy $89 million-asset Azle through a stock offering and borrowings. The deal is expected to close in the third or fourth quarter.

Azle is about 25 miles northwest of Fort Worth. Independent's subsidiary, First State Bank, operates branches only in west Texas communities such as Abilene, Lubbock, and San Angelo. - Laura Pavlenko Lutton
