Unionbancal Elects Deputy Chairman; Other Top Assignments Redistributed

Unionbancal Corp., San Francisco, elected Yoshihiko Someya deputy chairman in credit and administration of both the company and its Union Bank of California subsidiary, and put him on their board of directors.

Mr. Someya joined the bank in March as executive vice president of credit management support and liaison. Before that he was deputy general manager of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd.'s Osaka branch. The Japanese banking company owns 81% of Unionbancal.

Mr. Someya, 50, had succeeded Minoru Noda, 51, who relocated to Japan for a new assignment at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi.

Mr. Noda's two other titles at Union Bank of California were assigned to executive vice presidents Peter R. Butcher, who will become chief credit officer, and David I. Matson, who will become chief financial officer.

Both are to assume their new responsibilities July 1; they will report to Mr. Someya.
