Card Briefs: Mich. Retailer Group, Bank West Team Up

The Michigan Retailers Association and Bank West Financial Corp. of Grand Rapids have formed an alliance to assist retail businesses in western Michigan.

The retail association will perform bank card processing services for merchant customers of Bank West, a $180 million-asset community bank.

The Michigan Retailers Association processes more than $300 million annually in Michigan retailers' Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express transactions. The association's 4,700 members operate 10,000 stores.

Paul W. Sydloski, president and chief executive officer of Bank West, said the retail association's processing service will offer low rates to his merchant clients.

The retail association "provides our customers with the local presence and high level of service they expect from us," Mr. Sydloski said.
