Capital Briefs: Senate Panel Delays Vote on Regulatory Relief

Under heavy pressure from Democrats, the Senate Banking Committee has postponed its vote on regulatory relief legislation until July 29.

Sponsored by Sens. Richard C. Shelby, R-Ala., and Connie Mack, R-Fla., the bill would roll back more than 40 banking rules and permit the payment of interest on required reserves and business checking accounts.

A committee vote had been scheduled for Thursday, but Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun of Illinois and other Democrats sought a delay because of differences with Sen. Shelby over legislation to ease credit union membership limits.
