In Brief: Mortgage Disclosure Act Reports Are Available

Copies of 1997 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act reports are now available for the 7,925 lenders covered by the law.

The 1997 data covers 16.4 million loans, an increase of 11% from 1996. Refinancings were responsible for the bulk of the increase, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council said Tuesday.

Lenders must make copies of their HMDA data available at their home office and at least one branch in every metropolitan statistical area where they operate. The exam council will release aggregate data in August.
