Capital Briefs: OCC Guidance on Minority Business Loans

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued guidelines Thursday designed to help national banks lend more to minority- run small businesses.

In a letter to national banks, acting Comptroller of the Currency Julie L. Williams said the procedures were developed after minority businesspeople complained about lack of access to credit in recent meetings with agency officials. Ms. Williams urged banks to emulate a variety of outreach programs created by several institutions around the country.

The guidelines explain many of the successful programs national banks have developed.
