Short Takes: Deutsche Picks Equity Trading Strategist

Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., the U.S. securities and investment banking arm of Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt, announced Monday that market analyst Laszlo Birinyi will become its global equity trading strategist.

Mr. Birinyi's Greenwich, Conn.-based Birinyi Associates Inc., which provides research to institutional investors and manages about $300 million for individual investors, will advise Deutsche Bank Securities on movements in various equity markets.

Birinyi Associates gathers data to track money flows and trading activity of equities on a global basis.

Mr. Birinyi is a columnist for Forbes magazine and a regular panelist on the public television program "Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser."

The work with Deutsche Bank Securities "will involve meeting clients and re-meeting old clients," Mr. Birinyi said. "We will also help traders and salespeople with an awareness of market trends."

He added that Birinyi Associates is preparing a study titled "The Case Against Indexing."
