In Brief: Bank of N.Y. Exec Joins Minority-Owned Firm

Daniel L. Black, a 16-year veteran of Bank of New York Co. and co-head of its U.S. commercial banking group, is jumping to Utendahl, a minority- owned financial services and advisory firm.

On Monday, Mr. Black, 38, is to join the firm's investment banking and broker-dealer unit, Utendahl Capital Partners, as president and chief operating officer. His last day at Bank of New York is today.

At Bank of New York, Mr. Black oversaw relationships with more than 300 large national companies in New York, the Northeast, and the Midwest. He was the highest-ranking African-American executive at the bank.

At Utendahl, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a fast-growing subsidiary. Utendahl Capital Partners specializes in taxable fixed-income securities, equity securities, convertible securities, corporate finance, mortgage and real estate finance, structured finance, and financial advisory assignments.
