Card Briefs: 2 Credit Unions Join Fee-Free ATM Chain

Intercept Group Inc. said General Electric Federal Credit Union of Rome, Ga., and Emory Federal Credit Union of Decatur, Ga., joined its Intercept Switch surcharge-free automated teller machine network.

Intercept Switch members agree not to impose surcharges on one another's cardholders, but out-of-network customers may have to pay fees.

The network, with 127 members in 11 states, is meant to help credit unions and smaller banks preserve free ATM access.

"Now our members have surcharge-free access to our own ATMs, as well as 160 operating on the Intercept Switch network throughout Georgia," said Chris Culberson, president of Emory Federal.
