IN BRIEF: Raymond James Offers Home Equity Loans

Raymond James Bank, a subsidiary of Raymond James Financial Inc., plans to begin offering home equity loans in every state but Texas.

The bank makes loans through referrals from 3,200 financial advisers in the 1,200 branches of three affiliated investment firms. The company also uses direct mail and a Web site to originate loans. Credit approval for these loans generally takes 48 hours, the bank said.

It was chartered in 1994 and began making mortgage loans in October 1997. In the first half, it originated $27 million of mortgages.
