Capital Briefs: Clinton Due at Parley On Indian Communities

President Clinton tops a long list of government officials expected to speak at a conference scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday on "Building Economic Self-Determination in Indian Communities."

The wide-ranging conference agenda includes sessions on lending to Native Americans. Acting Comptroller of the Currency Julie L. Williams is slated to speak Thursday.

The Office of Thrift Supervision has teamed up with New Mexico's Office of Indian Affairs to host a similar conference Tuesday and Wednesday in Albuquerque. The 1998 Native American Housing Conference is designed to stimulate investment and homeownership on tribal lands.
