In Brief: Commerzbank Hires N.Y. Equities Leader

Commerzbank Capital Markets Corp., the U.S. investment banking arm of Frankfurt-based Commerzbank, hired Michael Lewis from SBC Warburg Dillon Read to head its New York equities sales and trading group.

Mr. Lewis joined the unit in New York on Monday. He had worked in Warburg's New York equities sales and trading office since 1983.

At Commerzbank, Mr. Lewis will attempt to expand the firm's product mix, which has focused on selling German equities in the American market. Mr. Lewis will focus on selling more pan-European and Asian companies to U.S. investors.

He will report to the bank's London-based head of European equities sales and trading, Dan Davies, who joined the bank last week.

The two hires are part of a yearlong effort to increase the bank's global equities presence, a bank spokeswoman said.
