IN BRIEF: Late Bank-Stock Selloff Brings Imbalances

A marketwide rash of sell orders caused trading imbalances in a number of bank stocks as trading came to a close Thursday. Investors spooked by continued negative economic news from Asia and Russia were trying to sell large blocks of shares in the last half-hour, traders said.

Market makers were unable to find buyers to match sellers of U.S. Bancorp at $41; Citicorp at $140.125; NationsBank Corp. at $72.0625; Banc One Corp. $45.5625; or BankBoston Corp. at $45.50.

The imbalances suggest these stocks will open lower on Friday.
