Short Takes: Ohio Banking Firm to Offer More Products

Peoples Bancorp, Marietta, Ohio, is adding homeowners' and automobile insurance to the menu of insurance products it sells in southeastern Ohio.

The $866 million-asset bank said its two insurance agency subsidiaries, Northwest Territory Property and Casualty Insurance Agency Inc. and Northwest Territory Life Insurance Agency Inc., have been licensed to sell products of Motorists Mutual Insurance Co., Mico Insurance Co., and Motorists Life Insurance Co.-all of Columbus, Ohio.

The bank turned to the Motorists companies to add to the life insurance products it already offers from Nationwide Insurance and U.S. Credit Life.

"We felt they were a very good company and were local to Ohio," said Charles R. Hunsaker, Peoples' general counsel.

Peoples said that along with the new property and casualty products, it will offer additional life products by yearend.

In 1996, Peoples became the first Ohio financial institution to have an affiliated agency licensed to sell insurance.
