In the Wake of Takeover by NationsBank, Barnett Unit's Ex-President

Donna L. Terry, the former president and chief investment officer of Barnett Capital Advisors, a unit of Barnett Banks Inc., is starting her own investment management firm.

Joining her is David W. Price, a chartered financial analyst who also worked at Barnett Banks, where he held several positions, including head of personal funds investments.

Ms. Terry said she left Barnett "at the change of control," referring to the bank's recent acquisition by NationsBank Corp., Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Price was offered a job by NationsBank but chose to pursue a more entrepreneurial route, Ms. Terry said.

Ms. Terry said she and Mr. Price each have over 20 years of experience in equity portfolio management. The new firm, which has yet to be named, will be based in Jacksonville, Fla., Barnett's hometown.

Ms. Terry filed Tuesday for state approval to launch her firm. She hopes to have five or six people in place by the beginning of March.

The boutique will focus on managing portfolios for high-net-worth individuals and small institutions. Ms. Terry said she initially plans to focus on the high-net-worth area and would like to cater to what she calls the "forgotten wealthy"-those with $600,000 to $1 million to invest- as well as individuals with $1 million to $10 million.

But the firm also wants to garner institutional business, she said.

"I would love to be able to add value to small plans"-those at about the $10 million mark-she said. Ms. Terry said she might go after small construction companies or restaurant companies.
