Short Takes: Property/Casualty Group Names New Economist

The Insurance Information Institute, a New York-based trade organization for the property and casualty industry, has hired a new economist.

Robert P. Hartwig, who had been director of economic research and senior economist for the National Council on Compensation Insurance in Boca Raton, Fla., will study insurance issues for the New York organization.

Mr. Hartwig had also served as senior economist with Swiss Reinsurance Group in New York and as a senior statistician for the Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington.

Mr. Hartwig has written numerous articles on insurance and taught economics courses. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master's and doctorate in economics from the University of Illinois.
