Capital Briefs: Regulators Put Banks' CRA Ratings On-Line

The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council has unveiled a new Internet tool to help the public learn banks' Community Reinvestment Act ratings.

The tool, available at www.ffiec.gov/cracf/crarating/main.cfm, allows a user to search by a bank's name, asset size, or regulator. It includes ratings issued by the four banking and thrift regulators since July 1, 1990, and will be updated quarterly.

The exam council has also scheduled a risk-management conference Oct. 15-16 in San Francisco. It will cover risk-management techniques, interest rate risk, regional risk-management concerns, pending legislation, and year-2000 computer problems.

The council is the umbrella group for the banking, thrift, and credit union regulators. For details call 703-516-5588 or visit www.FFIEC.gov/exam/education.htm.
