Tech Bytes: Fiserv Buys Deluxe's Card Embossing Unit

Fiserv Inc., a leading provider of data processing services to banks, has bought Deluxe Card Services, a card embossing unit of Deluxe Corp., for an undisclosed price.

The St. Paul unit, which generated $15 million of revenue last year, will be merged with Fiserv's Personix business unit, which sells plastic card and laser printing services to the bank, health-care, and telecommunications markets. Personix issued more than 80 million cards in 1997.

The acquisition will "nearly double our base of card services clients to over 5,600 financial institutions nationwide," said George Dalton, chairman and chief executive officer of Fiserv.
