Tech Bytes: Turkish Bank Chooses Phoenix Retail System

One of the largest banks in Turkey has signed up for a core retail banking system from Phoenix International Inc.

Sekerbank, based in Ankara, Turkey, has 207 branches and lends to many agricultural companies. The installation is expected to solve the bank's year-2000 problem and support new product development and specialized customer service.

A partnership that Phoenix International formed with International Business Machines Corp. helped secure the deal. The partnership will let Sekerbank draw upon IBM's system integration capabilities.

Sekerbank was also attracted to Phoenix's established presence in Turkey with another large bank.

"Phoenix is able to offer localized support and service," said Suphi Kabadayi, Sekerbank assistant general manager. "Clearly, both Phoenix and IBM's commitment to this region was a powerful combination that was evident to us."
