Card Briefs: Ex-Visa President Joins Board of U.S. Wireless

Charles T. Russell, retired president of Visa International, has joined the board of U.S. Wireless Data Inc., developer of a transaction processing system using cellular communications.

Mr. Russell, 68, worked for Visa from 1971-six months after it was founded as National BankAmericard Inc.-until 1994. He was chief executive officer of the international association for 10 years. He also was senior vice president, executive vice president, and president and chief operating officer of Visa U.S.A.

In his prior banking career, Mr. Russell worked at Pittsburgh National Bank and Wachovia Bank and Trust Co.

He also is on the boards of First Data Corp., Inficorp, Cybercash Inc., E-Funds Corp., and Janol Hydro Co., a maker of automotive braking equipment.

On the seven-member board of U.S. Wireless, Mr. Russell joins Roger Peirce, a former Visa chief operating officer and group president of First Data, who was recently appointed chairman and CEO.
