In Brief: 2 U.S. Offices for Irish Data Security Firm

The Irish data security company Baltimore Technologies Inc. has opened two U.S. offices.

The locations in high-technology areas-Boston and San Mateo, Calif.- complement other offices in Dublin, London, Tokyo, and the Netherlands.

"The demand we have experienced from high-tech vendors and the e- commerce sector has necessitated an aggressive expansion program within the U.S.," said chief executive officer Fran Rooney.

Baltimore has been a leader in public key infrastructure, data encryption, and authentication products. It is known for the Unicert certification authority system and the Eurotrust electronic commerce infrastructure, which was funded by the European Commission.

Baltimore's software and Gateway portable computers were used in the digital signing of a communique during President Clinton's recent visit with Prime Minister Bertie Ahern of Ireland.
