In Brief: Alabama National to Buy Fla. Bank for $15M

Alabama National Bancorp. has a deal to buy Community Bank of Naples (Fla.) for about $15 million of stock.

Community Bank would become a subsidiary of Birmingham-based Alabama National.

Community Bank, with $80 million of assets, operates one office in the west Florida city. Alabama National is the parent of eight banks with 41 branches in Alabama and Florida.

Robert Guididas, president and chief executive officer of Community Bank, said the sale would give his bank "additional access to capital to allow us to continue our growth while maintaining our personalized customer service."

The deal is expected to close late this year or early in 1999.
