In Reorganization, Checkfree Promotes Exec To Senior VP of E-Commerce

Checkfree Corp., the leading bill payment processor, has named Matthew S. Lewis senior vice president of electronic commerce products.

Mr. Lewis, 32, had been vice president of corporate strategy and communications.

The promotion coincides with a reorganization in which the management of operations has been separated from strategic planning, product development, and marketing, which Mr. Lewis will oversee.

"We've put all of our electronic commerce products-bill payment, bill presentment, automated balance transfer, various flavors of home banking processing-into a single EC products group," Mr. Lewis said, "and we will manage them as a products group separate from the operational element.

"The rationale is that we've got to make sure that we've got a razor- sharp focus on the operational aspects of the business."

Before joining Atlanta-based Checkfree two years ago, Mr. Lewis spent eight years at the now defunct Bank South Corp., also based in Atlanta, where he was director of corporate affairs.

"Matt will work closely with our technology, sales, and marketing people to ensure that Checkfree products lead the market wherever we compete," said Peter J. Kight, president and chief executive officer of the company.

Mr. Lewis' former investor relations responsibilities have been transferred to chief financial officer Jim Douglass. Laurinda I. Wilson now handles corporate communications.
