In Brief: Bank of N.Y. Rehires Capital Markets Exec

Daniel L. Black will return to Bank of New York Co. after a brief absence, becoming a managing director in the bank's capital markets group.

Mr. Black will coordinate the activities of relationship managers from the bank with those of the capital markets group, a bank spokesman said Tuesday.

Mr. Black, 38, left the bank in July, accepting a job as president and chief operating officer of Utendahl Capital Partners LP, a New York-based investment firm with $860 million of assets under management.

Before that, he spent 16 years in commercial banking at the Bank of New York, most recently as senior vice president in charge of commercial banking in the Northeast.

John O. Utendahl, chairman and chief executive officer of Utendahl Capital, will assume Mr. Black's role as president.

Mr. Utendahl founded the minority-owned investment firm in 1992 as a registered investment adviser specializing in fixed-income and convertible securities.
