Short Takes: State St. Names Head Of Sales in Asset Unit

State Street Corp. has named Donald J. Cregg Jr. to lead sales of personal trust and investments for its asset management subsidiary.

Mr. Cregg, who started at Boston-based State Street Global Advisors late in September, succeeded J.H. "Jay" Cromarty, who transferred to a new post heading business development in its growing global alliance unit.

The 206-year-old trust and investments unit is in a period of expansion. Assets under management doubled, to $16 billion in the last 12 months. Mr. Cregg joined as a principal and reports to John Grady, who directs all sales and marketing for State Street Global, which manages $422 billion of assets.

Most recently, Mr. Cregg was a business development officer for personal trust at Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co. in Boston, where he focused on clients who work in high-technology and venture capital businesses. He is rejoining State Street Corp., where he worked in commercial finance from 1982 to 1991. After that, he was a senior marketing officer in asset-based lending at Fleet Financial Group Inc.
