IN BRIEF: Humanitarian Award For Countrywide Exec

The National Italian-American Foundation honored Angelo Mozilo, co-founder and chief executive officer of Countrywide Home Loans, at an awards ceremony here over the weekend.

Mr. Mozilo, 59, received the award for humanitarian service. Other honorees included actress Anjelica Huston, former Los Angeles Dodgers' manager Tommy Lasorda, and Barnes & Noble chairman Leonard Riggio.

Mr. Mozilo founded Countrywide, now the largest independent mortgage banking company, with David Loeb in 1969. Countrywide gives more than $1 million annually to housing and family-related organizations and sponsors Christmas in April, a program that rehabilitates homes for disabled and low-income homeowners.
