Card Briefs: Lands' End to Cover Web Fraud Losses

Lands' End has joined several other retailers offering to cover any cardholder fraud losses stemming from Internet transactions.

As with the Excite, Travelocity, Dell Computer, Amazon.com, and Virtual Vineyards sites, shoppers at www.landsend.com would not have to pay even the $50 statutory maximum credit card liability.

Lands' End has had no cases of fraud in its three years on the World Wide Web but it wants to provide an extra "security blanket," said Willie Doyle, the catalogue retailer's Internet marketing and strategic development manager. "Although analysts predict consumers will spend nearly $5 billion on-line this year, Internet security remains a concern," he said.

The company reaffirmed its reliance on other security measures, including firewalls, data encryption, and the Secure Sockets Layer standard. It also subscribes to the Better Business Bureau's BBB Online and the TRUSTe privacy certification programs.
