Tech Bytes: ATM Network to Sell Web Banking Package

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. said it will resell Online Resources and Communications Corp.'s home banking software to financial institutions that participate in its automated teller machine network.

Six-year-old Online Resources of McLean, Va., uses the same networks that link ATMs to deliver banking services via personal computers and telephones. As with ATM transactions, funds transfers and bill payments executed through Online Resources' software are executed in real time.

"Online has been in the interactive banking business longer than anyone else," said James Stewart, executive vice president of sales for Affiliated Computer Services' financial industry group. "Its systems are tried and true."

Officials at Online Resources said they expect 20 of Affiliated's 523 financial institutions to begin offering the software within a year. Online has 290 banks as customers.

Online charges a $25,000 one-time implementation fee plus monthly charges per customer of $2 to $3.50. For banking and bill payment, monthly charges per customer range from $5.45 to $7.45.

"We appeal to small and medium-size banks, and our services match the needs of the ACS client base very well," said Ray Crosier, executive vice president of client services for Online Resources.
