Card Briefs: Wachovia Card Unit Buys HNC Program

Wachovia Corp.'s credit card operation has bought the Capstone application management system from HNC Software Inc., the San Diego-based vendor announced.

Capstone is designed to process thousands of applications per hour according to rules set by the card issuer. It can incorporate HNC's predictive software and conventional scorecards.

Wachovia Bank Card Services vice president Janet H. Solomon said the decision was not made lightly. "We developed an exhaustive specification for the new system," she said. "We wanted to ensure that our goals of comprehensive functionality and future technological flexibility were achieved.

"HNC's proposal for Capstone addresses all of our requirements."

HNC completed an initial installation for development purposes and is working with Wachovia for full integration into application processing operations.
