Card Briefs: First Data Unit Puts Public Records on Net

First Data Solutions is making bankruptcy, tax lien, and other public records data available to financial services companies on the Internet.

First Data Solutions compiles its data base from more than 7,000 federal, county, and local courthouses. It gets daily updates from more than 80% of bankruptcy courts; the remaining courts are updated weekly.

First Data said the Public Record Online service helps clients verify bankruptcy filings and assess cardholders' financial stability.

Public Record Online is compatible with the unit's FastData and FirstPursuit services, which track phone numbers, addresses, and credit report information.

"Our clients have told us that they need to have quick access to this data to help make informed credit and collections decisions," said Matt Hillgard, senior vice president at First Data Solutions. "Now with just a few key strokes they will be able to switch between FastData and FirstPursuit and the most complete and current public record information in the United States."
