Card Briefs: Chase Launches Card With Built-In Magnifier

Chase Manhattan Bank has formally introduced the Chase LensCard, which has a built-in magnifying lens and comes in MasterCard and Visa versions.

Chase said the lens can help cardholders read telephone books, restaurant bills, and other small-print items.

Research showed "that consumers in the 30 to 64 age range were quite interested in a credit card that would perform the dual function the LensCard does," said executive vice president and credit card chief Michael Urkowitz.

Early tests "proved the product to be extremely useful and equally appealing to both those who wear glasses and those who don't," Mr. Urkowitz said.

The lens magnifies print 3.5 times. It is embedded on the left side of the card and measures 1.125 inches by 0.375 inches.
