Tech Bytes: Canada Firm to Buy 45% of Calif.'s Bio ID

Sonoma Resource Corp. has announced an agreement to pay $5 million for up to 45% of Biometric Identification Inc., a specialist in fingerprint authorization and verification technology.

The remaining 55% of Biometric Identification, known as BioID and based in Sherman Oaks, Calif., would be held by Arete Associates, a high- technology think tank and defense contractor.

BioID provides a compact fingerprint verification module to the computer keyboard manufacturer Key Source International.

"Many of our banking and financial market customers have asked us to produce security products," said Phil Bruno, Key Source vice president of marketing and sales, "We're teaming with BioID because they offer the complete solution to fingerprint verification challenges, with all the software to make it work."
