In Brief: German Banks Hit by Holocaust Lawsuits

Holocaust survivors are suing Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Bank, and Commerzbank in U.S. District Court in New York.

The suit, filed late last month by attorneys at Milberg, Weiss, Bershad, Hynes & Lerach, claims the banks refused to return assets of Jewish survivors, and financed or profited from Nazi slave labor.

Holocaust survivors earlier sued European insurers and other companies, including Swiss banks accused of pilfering assets from victims' dormant bank accounts. Switzerland's two biggest banks, UBS AG and Credit Suisse Group, have agreed to pay $1.25 billion to settle the Holocaust survivors' claims.
