Tech Bytes: Chicago Thrift to Use EDS Miser Software

St. Paul Bancorp, a Chicago thrift, has signed a licensing agreement with Electronic Data Systems Corp. to deploy its Miser software for all core applications.

EDS will convert the $5.9 billion-asset thrift company's 65 locations to the Unisys-based Miser product from its current IBM-based in-house system. It also will convert 12 branches of $700 million-asset Beverly Bank, which St. Paul recently acquired.

In October 1994, EDS bought the Unisys-based Miser product, built for thrifts, from the defunct Newtrend Group. M. Arthur Gillis of Computer Based Solutions Inc. said there have not been many recent buyers, because "the thrift world has become a little more commercial bank oriented."
