Tech Bytes: Voice Access Coming To Quicken Web Site

Intuit Inc. has teamed up with General Magic Inc. to give users of its Quicken.com Web site the ability to use voice commands to retrieve information.

General Magic, a supplier of communications software, will run the service from its Portico network operations center in Sunnyvale.

Steve Markman, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of General Magic, called it "an important step in establishing our MagicTalk platform as the de facto standard for voice access to the Internet."

The service is expected to be available in early 1999 on a limited basis. It will be accessible through any telephone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. General Magic will offer tiered levels of service for the Quicken.com user base.
