BankBoston Hires a Sears Exec for New Technology, Operations Job

BankBoston hired an executive from Sears, Roebuck and Co., as executive vice president of technology and operations, a newly created position.

Joseph Smialowski, 50, will be responsible for global operations of the $73.8 billion-asset bank when he takes his post Dec. 1. He will report to Bradford H. Warner, vice chairman, and become a member of the bank's executive management group.

At Sears Roebuck, Mr. Smialowski served as senior vice president and chief information officer and was responsible for technology worldwide. Before that he was a partner at Price Waterhouse, where he spent nine years as a consultant in retail technology.
