Correction: 11/19/98 issue

An article Wednesday, "Cost Estimates for Year-2000 Fixes Keep Growing" (page 1), was mistaken in saying Bank of New York had raised its estimate of what it would spend on the problem.

The company has consistently estimated $82 million for the whole job. The increase was erroneously calculated from estimates for 1998 and 1999 only.

An accompanying table did not repeat the error, but a correction Thursday failed to tell when the table and story ran.
