Card Briefs: GlobeSet Says Software Compatible with Visa

GlobeSet Inc., a leader in electronic commerce software, announced the completion of interoperability testing between the GlobeSet POS 1.2 software and version 1.0 of the Visa Payment Gateway Service.

GlobeSet said it was the first to achieve this milestone between Visa and on-line merchant software that has been certified to meet the specifications of the Secure Electronic Transaction, or SET, protocol.

In addition, GlobeSet POS 1.2 is the first merchant payment server application that also supports the Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, standard in compliance with Visa interoperability requirements.

GlobeSet, which distributes its software mainly on a wholesale basis to banks and processing organizations, puts a premium on interoperability, guaranteeing that its systems will work with those of any vendor that has received certification from the MasterCard- and Visa-owned SETCo.

"The potential for secure transactions over the Internet is enormous and we see interoperability as a major requirement for the widespread adoption of electronic commerce," said Wes Byrne, GlobeSet vice president of product development.

Separately, GlobeSet announced general availability of its CA version 1.2, the first certificate authority software to pass the SETCo testing process.
