Capital Briefs: Fed Raises Threshold for Required Reserves

The Federal Reserve Board on Tuesday adjusted its policies for required reserves.

Starting next month, it said, banks do not have to hold reserves against the first $4.9 million of deposits and other liabilities subject to reserve requirements. That is up from today's $4.7 million threshold.

The Fed will impose a 3% reserve requirement on deposits between $4.9 million and $46.5 million. Remaining deposits are subject to a 10% reserve requirement. Currently, deposits between $4.7 million and $47.8 million are subject to the 3% reserve.
